MARIA GOWLAND

Maria studied in the National Film and Visual Arts institutions in Argentina. She has a post-graduate diploma in Media from Canberra University, Australia.

 

She then continued her formation with courses: Directing Actors with Marketa Kemble (EICTV) Cuba, Meisner Technique at the Actor’s Temple, London, writing drama with Enrique Papatino, film editing with Miguel Perez and Photography with Adriana Lestido, Bs.As. 

 

She has 30 years of experience in the film and TV industry both in Argentina and overseas.

 

She has worked in the fields of directing, production and photography. She has worked with directors such as: Walter Salles (Br) Motorcycle Diaries, Sergio Machado (Br) Cidade Baixa, Carlos Sorin (Arg) The Road of San Diego, Lucrecia Martel (Arg) The Holy Girl, Sergio Renan (Arg) The Dream of the Heroes, Emanuel Crialese (It) Nuovo Mondo, among others. She has been show runner for Fox Latin America and has worked with: BBC, Arte, Aljazeera, Discovery, Pol-ka, INCAA, (Arg) and SBS, (Aus).

In 1997 she supervised 1st year students’ short films in directing at EICTV, Cuba. Later in 2006-2007 she coordinated the Directing Faculty at EICTV and in that time worked with Stephen Bayly in his workshop for actors and directors. Since then they have developed the workshop ‘Working with the Actor’ and have given the workshop in Spain, Colombia and run it as an international workshop at EICTV regularly.

 

During her time in Bogotá between 2012 and 2015 she propelled the formation of ‘El Parche Meisner’ and from this group of actors, directors and scriptwriters several collaborations in short and feature films developed. She combines her work in filmmaking with teaching.
