ERNESTO DEL CAÑAL

Ernesto del Cañal graduated in 2012 from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, Cuba with a first-class degree in Acting. Subsequently he has been enrolled in numerous workshops in acting and directing at the EICTV (International Film School) in Cuba, including, over four years, the Working with Actors workshops of Stephen Bayly.

 

He was a founder-member of the Peña Meisner de la Habana group and for them has played lead roles in ‘Forgotten Tombs’ of Edgar Lee Masters, ‘Blue Orange’ by Joe Penhall, and ‘Bent’ by Martin Sherman – all directed by Stephen Bayly.

 

Other theatre credits include ‘Ayer dejé de Matarme’ by Rogelio Orizondo and directed by Mario Guerra, ‘The Loneliness Trilogy’ based on Jon Fosse’s plays and presented at Bergen International Festival, ‘Woyzcek’ directed by William Ruiz.He has acted in numerous films (‘La Partida’ directed by Antonio Gens, ‘Pappa’ directed by Bob Yari, ‘Yunaisy’ and ‘Four Doors’ directed by Juan Pablo Daranas, ‘Vientos de La Habana’ directed by Felix Viscarret) as well as televisión (‘Los Pequeños Fugitivos’, ‘Palabras Propias’, ‘Tras La Huella’, Four Seasons in Havana). 

He is currently coordinating director of La Peña Meisner. In recent years he has acted and co-directed with German writer/director Roland Schimmelpfennig two works opening in Havana (‘El Camino de Las Hormigas’ and ‘Esta Noche Todo Será Diferente’)

Ernesto has taught workshops with Stephen Bayly at the EICTV and the Chile University in Santiago. He currently runs the Introduction to the Meisner’s Techniques Workshop in México D.F.
